Razmotrit ćemo sličnosti sporta i
organizaciji sportskih aktivnosti, međunarodnih suradnji i gradnji sportskih terena.
doprinos u organiziranju kontinentalnih-regionalnih vojnih sportskih natjecanja.
sporta i njegove šire društvene uloge.
Abstract (english) This paper deals with the topic of sports and military correspondence with an emphasis on the
contribution of athletes in the promotion of the armed forces.
We will look back on sports activities and competitions throughout history which have affirmed
sports in the military and have had a great impact on development of today's modern sports. The
similarities between sports and the military will be considered, as well as what qualities a
professional athlete/soldier needs to have in order to be a good leader and how do those qualities
influence athletes on joining the army and vice versa. There will be word about contribution of
the army in organization of sports activites, international cooperation and the construction of
sports fields as well. Moreover, we will discuss peace support operations and the International
Military Sports Council – CISM and its positive impact on the organization of both continental
and regional military sports competitions. Also, sport as an instrument of peace building and its
share in contribution to peace support operations will be considered. The concept of military
sport and its institutionalization, legalization and implementation are explained.
Unlike ancient history, especially classical antiquity, until modern times, contemporary military
sport seems to be in the gray zone today. In modern conditions, the professionalization of sports
is becoming a highly profitable business, but with the changed role of the military, the treatment
of military sports and its wider social role is being questioned. Therefore, it is being considered
whether modern sports in the army can be regarded as an organized, competitive activity and
whether we can talk about soldiers – athletes as athletes who, with a wide range of different
activities, prepare and participate in sports competitions and not about amateur athletes who take
up a sport in their freetime or in physical education classes regardless of their vocation.
