Abstract

Cilj ovoga rada jest prezentirati pregled Bitke za Vukovar, staviti je u kontekst obrane Hrvatske
i analizirati rad Zapovjedništva obrane Grada Vukovara.
Rad je podijeljen u osam poglavlja. Nakon kratkog uvoda slijedi drugo poglavlje u kojem je
opisano područje na kojemu se odvijala bitka za Vukovar. U trećem poglavlju analiziraju se
sukobljene strane. Četvrto poglavlje donosi pregled događaja koji su prethodili bitci za Vukovar,
od 1990. godine do 25. kolovoza 1991. U sljedećim dvama poglavljima kronološki se obrađuje
Bitka za Vukovar kroz dvije faze. Prva faza od 25. kolovoza do 1. listopada 1991. te druga faza
od 1. listopada do 18. studenoga 1991. U sedmom poglavlju analizirane su bitne stavke bitke za
Vukovar kao što su zapovijedanje i uporaba snaga i predočena različita mišljenja o važnosti
Vukovara u Domovinskom ratu. Rad završava zaključkom u kojem autor iznosi svoja mišljenja o
uzrocima pada Vukovara i razlozima zbog kojih je toliko dugo odolijevao.

Abstract (english)

The goal of this thesis was to present a historical overview of the Battle of Vukovar, put it in the
context of Croatian defense and analyze the work of the City Defense Command.
The paper is divided into eight chapters. After a brief introduction, chapter number two describes
the location at which the battle of Vukovar took place. The third chapter analyzes the conflicting
parties. The fourth chapter provides an overview of the events that preceded the Battle of
Vukovar, from 1990 to August 25, 1991. The next two chapters deal chronologically with the
Battle of Vukovar through two phases. The first phase from August 25 to October 1st 1991, and
the second phase from 1 October 1st to November 18th 1991. The seventh chapter analyzes the
important items of the battle for Vukovar, such as the command and use of forces, and presents
different opinions on the importance of Vukovar in the Homeland War.The paper concludes with
a chapter on the author’s opinions on the causes of the fall of Vukovar and the reasons for it’s
lenghty resistance.
